So, since returning from Perth, there has been absolutely no
respite. Sure, apparently I'm on a 1 week break from TAFE, but I have spent it
immersed in the 'drier than desert sand' subject matter of my TAE
qualification, which I kind of did
let slide a little for a couple of weeks there - much to my regret...
keep a straight face for the
recording of a lesson in 'Calculating shrinkage in nuno felt for the creation
of garments'. Stepson Liam will brave a lesson in free-machine embroidery this
week, and next Sunday I will be teaching four lovely ladies some arashi and
itajime shibori. This is the fun bit - then it's back to the final unit of 'Assessment',
where I see a lot of excel matrixes - aaagh!
Some lovely news is that we have already booked next year's
SvenJen adventure, which will be back to Ballarat for our third time, studying
with Meghan O'Rourke
and making anodised titanium jewellery. My apologies in
advance for the blog entries which will result from that experience, for those
of you who have just been perplexed by the recent three posts of the annual SvenJen/crazy Bunneh/'who
actually speaks like that' story. It is but once a year, and yes, it is quite
mad, but apart from that slight aberration, I promise to remain focussed on
textiles!
Speaking of textiles, every fabric lover has something to do
this Sunday, as Wendy Makin is holding another of her amazing fabric sales. You
may have previously seen me here in raptures over bags of scraps from this fine
establishment, and more recently, I picked up rolls of fabric at ridiculous
prices here. Whilst I am almost unwilling to share this amazing resource, how
can I deny you all this fabulous opportunity?! This is what I saw last time I
was there - amazing rolls of Italian silk organza, embroidered and beaded laces
- just delicious! A lot of it is silk too, so dyes beautifully. It's definitely
worth a drive or even a flight!
